EN 45 Caminito del Rey Through a Guide’s Eyes

02.11.2026

What is it like to work at Caminito del Rey — and walk the same path every day with people seeing it for the very first time?

🎙️ In this episode of #JanaTalk, I'm very happy to welcome Alessandro Duran Quattrociocchi — a guide with LegacyTravel who grew up near Caminito del Rey in southern Spain. I met Alessandro during our holiday in Spain, when he guided us through Caminito. His humour, warmth and the way he looked after our group made him one of the best guides I've ever met. I wanted to hear more about him and his work — so I invited him to Jana Talk!

Half Spanish and half Italian, Alessandro speaks four languages: Spanish, Italian, English and French. He studied translation and interpreting at the University of Córdoba and discovered how much he enjoyed working with people during two summer seasons at a hotel in Menorca. Since March 2025, he has been welcoming visitors to Caminito del Rey, sharing his knowledge, personal anecdotes and plenty of jokes along the way.

For Alessandro, meeting people from different countries is one of the best parts of the job. He credits his parents with teaching him to be kind and down-to-earth — and believes that even a single smile can turn someone's day around.

For me, this is the best office in the world. A single smile can turn someone's day around. Being kind costs nothing. I want every visitor to feel that their tour was special. The people I meet are my favourite part of the job

About the guest: Alessandro Durán Quattrociocchi

Alessandro Durán Quattrociocchi is a tour guide at Caminito del Rey in southern Spain, where he has worked with LegacyTravel since March 2025. He grew up in nearby Campillos, giving him a personal connection to the place he now introduces to visitors from around the world.

Half Spanish and half Italian, Alessandro speaks Spanish, Italian, English and French. He studied Translation and Interpreting at the University of Córdoba, focusing on English and French. During his studies, he spent two summer seasons working at a hotel in Menorca, where he discovered how much he enjoyed meeting people from different countries and making them feel welcome.

At Caminito del Rey, Alessandro combines his knowledge of the route with humour, personal anecdotes and an attentive approach to his groups. He enjoys sharing the history of the walkway, including accounts connected to his father's experiences of the old path, while getting to know the people who join his tours.

Alessandro credits his parents with teaching him to be kind and down-to-earth. He believes that a small gesture, a joke or a smile can make a difference to someone's day. Having grown up nearby, he considers himself fortunate to work in a place he calls "the best office in the world."

In his conversation on Jana Talk, Alessandro offers a guide's perspective on Caminito del Rey, from the history of the original path to what visitors can expect today. He also shares his journey into guiding and reflects on humour, kindness and the care that goes into making each group's visit special.
